Mate Monster: Mate on h7 (1)

In this lesson, your target is h7. That’s your mate square. But you will need super mate monster power, for you have to get rid of a defender to succeed!

Beating defenders is something that you have done before. There are three ways to remove guards. Let’s refresh your memory:

  • Capturing
  • Deflecting (chasing away)
  • Luring away

You will need to use all of these methods in this lesson.

The examples show how this is done.


What do you have to do?

Deliver a checkmate on h7 (red square) by removing a defender. This may take you three or four moves, so keep calculating!

The knight guards the h7 mate square. Therefore, White captures the knight.

If Black takes back, White will check the king (watch the moves). 
If Black does not recapture, White wins 3 points.
